Project 2: Sketches

In order to come up with an icon, I brainstormed a bunch of traits that I associated with. I also made a list of things I liked. You could see some of those ideas in the sketches below!

The torta (a Mexian sandwich) represented not only my culture, but my love for food. The pillow was because I like to sleep a lot. From all the sketches on this page, I ended up going with the moon and clouds. I am in love with the the moon/sun imagery and have always related to the moon (why? I can't even tell you) and I think it depicted my dreamy nature pretty well— I'm always told I have my head in the clouds.

One sketch idea I had to scrap was this image of broken drumsticks. As I mentioned before, I used to play drums but ditched it once I got to high school. I've done that with a lot of things. The image of the broken drumstick was striking to me, but I couldn't find a way to make the image into an icon that would look good big and small, and well, history repeats itself, and I ditched the concept.

In the end, I settled with a fish jumping out of water. Out of all of my designs, this one felt the most challenging. However, as I was making this icon I kept thinking about the moon icon and realized that I felt more connected to that imagery. I decided to make both then, since I had enough time in the end.
